Home made Castile Soap Shampoo and Vinegar Rinse, Baking Soda Cleaning Paste

Gonna try making my own shampoo & conditioner.

Shampoo

  • 1 part castile soap (1 cup)
  • 2 parts water (2 cups) —more if preferred
  • 1/6 part olive oil (1 tsp)
  • choice of herbs
  • drops of essential oil as desired
  • gather herbs
  • bring water to boil in non metal pot
  • remove from heat
  • add herbs and set aside to let infuse for several hours
  • when cool, strain into container
  • gently mix in castile soap
  • mix in olive oil
  • add essential oils
  • will keep for a couple of weeks unrefridgerated.

Vinegar Rinse

  • 1 part vinegar
  • 1 part water
  • herbs to suit
  • place herbs in a steeping jar
  • bring vinegar to simmer in non metal pot
  • pour over herbs into the jar
  • let cool completely
  • put on a tight lid
  • let sit in a dark place for a few weeks (ideally, but not necessary)
  • after shampooing pour vinegar rinse over hair
  • let set in for a bit
  • rinse
  • vinegar smell will disperse quickly

I’ve been doing the vinegar rinse thing, and my hair is so much more bouncy and shiny and less tangly. but i’ve just been using the vinegar I had on hand, cheap white cleaning vinegar. and using about a cup of it straight on my hair. it’s a little burny on the eyes, and a overwhelming with the fumes.

Baking Soda Cleaning Paste

  • 1 part baking soda (tblsp)
  • 2 parts water
  • massage into scalp
  • gently work the paste through the length of hair
  • rinse thoroughly
